Italian & Art Course in Florence – Monthly Programme / 28 lessons per week
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
Linguaviva’s Italian and art course is aimed at those looking to combine Italian language learning with a course of their choice in fashion design, interior design, photography, or painting. Available at our school in Florence, the programme lasts one month and includes 20 Italian lessons and eight art lessons per week, for a total of 28 lessons per week.
OBJECTIVES
Our combined Italian language and art course offers students the opportunity to learn Italian and develop their creativity in a stimulating environment, rich in art and culture. Our (standard) Italian language learning course aims to develop all four communication skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Courses in art, fashion, design, interior design, photography, and painting do not require any specific experience.
CONTENT
Italian lessons are held on Monday to Friday mornings at our school in Florence, while art course lessons take place in the afternoons at our partner Linguaviva art school. Students can choose to study fashion design, interior design, photography, or painting.

FLORENCE AWAITS!
Do you already know how to speak Italian? Students with prior knowledge of Italian can take a written and oral placement test to assess their language proficiency and identify the most appropriate study group for them. Whereas if you are an absolute beginner, you will be placed in the standard Italian course level A1.

ART CLASSES OPTIONS
FASHION DESIGN
This multi-level course introduces students to the fashion industry. Lessons include classroom presentations and practical assignments in which students create projects based on the lessons. Individual and group feedback is an important element of the programme.
Beginner level
The course enables students to gain a basic understanding of fashion design and trends. Students learn how to draw fashion figures with the correct proportions in different poses, how to draw clothes on figures, and how to draw different materials using markers and coloured pencils. Special attention will be paid to planning and timing a fashion collection.
Intermediate and advanced levels
Students at intermediate and advanced levels will improve their drawing skills and work on specific market categories, such as high fashion, menswear, and accessories.
INTERIOR DESIGN
This multi-level course provides students with an understanding of the fundamentals of planning and furnishing interior spaces, with a focus on Italian interior design. Lessons include classroom presentations and practical assignments in which students create projects based on the lessons. Individual and group feedback is an important element of the programme.
Beginner level
The course provides students with a basic understanding of the fundamentals of planning and furnishing interiors. Students will learn manual drawing skills and how to use computer graphics programmes. They will study the history of interior design and contemporary trends, with a focus on Italian interior design. Students will learn to interpret architectural models, drawings, and plans, as well as develop knowledge of materials.
Intermediate and advanced levels
Intermediate and advanced students will start by developing an individual or group project based on the knowledge acquired in the first part of the course.
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
This course is designed to teach the fundamental skills and techniques required to take photographs with a digital camera. Lessons include practical demonstrations, presentations, critical theory, and individual and group feedback. You will need a camera that allows you to manually adjust the shutter speed and aperture.
Beginner level
The course focuses on basic skills and techniques for taking colour and black-and-white photographs. Special attention is paid to aesthetic and visual aspects, as well as to presentation and image editing. The course focuses on understanding and using the camera, manual exposure, composition, studio lighting, and basic image correction in Adobe Photoshop.
Advanced level
Advanced students with a solid foundation in digital photography will be introduced to advanced photo editing techniques using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. By the end of the course, students will have developed an understanding of their own photographic language and acquired a more critical eye.
BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY
In this course, students will learn the basic principles and techniques of black-and-white darkroom photography. Lessons include practical demonstrations, presentations, critical theory, and supervised laboratory work. You need a 35mm camera that allows you to manually adjust the shutter speed and aperture.
Beginner level
In the beginner level, students will be introduced to the basic functions of the manual 35 mm camera. They will focus on producing well-developed images and mastering the technical aspects of traditional photography.
Advanced level
Advanced students who have acquired basic darkroom skills will be introduced to alternative processes and advanced darkroom development techniques. All advanced students will begin to create a series of works that reflect their personal style and ideas.
PAINTING
Students will be introduced to the technical and theoretical aspects of painting using various media. Studio exercises will be enriched by discussions, critiques, illustrated lectures, museum visits, and analysis of historical and contemporary paintings.
Beginner level
Entry-level students will work with still life, live models, and on location in the city. Lessons will focus on the use of colour, value, and composition.
Intermediate level
Intermediate students will continue to develop the skills acquired at the initial level and begin to develop their own personal visual language.
Advanced level
Advanced students are expected to have mastered the technical aspects of painting and will begin to create a series of works that reflect their personal style and ideas.
